Over the last 26 years, I've dedicated myself to mastering the intricacies of high-performance sports and athletics.

This journey has been more than just a career; it's been a deep dive into what truly elevates an athlete's performance.

And over that time period, I have seen all different types of athletes across a number of sports, and the multitude of movement strategies and errors that come about when working with untrained youth athletes.

In each and every case, what those athletes needed wasn't "The Best 16-Week Program" for them to succeed. No, they needed coaching to learn and recognize how they were currently moving, and where I wanted them to get to as we worked to correct those errors and inefficiencies.

Every athlete when they are young learns how to move and each develops their own unique ways of moving, whether that is running, jumping, squatting, rotating; these all become motor patterns in your brain and nervous system. When you begin to play a sport, you use these motor patterns as the default way that you perform the more complex sport-specific skills.

So, if as you are getting to the age of 10 or 12 years old and you start to try and improve some of your in-sport skills, like skating on ice, throwing a ball, or swinging a golf club, your nervous system will try and use your inefficient motor patterns to attempt to perfect the sport-specific skills you need to develop to play at a higher level.

But if your foundation of basic movement skills is not fully developed, you will continue to struggle with higher level sport-specific skills.

What you need instead is to re-program your nervous system with more efficient, stable, and explosive movement patterns if you want to compete at the highest levels possible. Otherwise your sport-specific skills will always be limited and you will not realize your true potential in the sport.
